At ILI Digital we were approached by a company in the chemistry sector looking for a digitalization strategy to improve their process of recycling EV batteries.

The battery recycling process is considered a strategic priority in the automotive industry, as it allows the players involved in batteries manufacturing to drastically reduce their CO2 footprint production drastically.

This solution provides a digital platform to improve the entire battery recycling process and turn it from analogue to digital.

The mission for us was to develop a digital solution to create a smooth disposal process.

Although many companies have extensive recycling know-how and innovative techniques, the legacy processes consisted of paper-based forms and manual work throughout the entire battery recycling chain.


In addition, the process of our client involved multiple stakeholders and complex interactions to ensure recycling operations ran efficiently and effectively.

How did we do it?

Using agile development and design thinking, we conducted an extensive market research to understand Renolit user needs, designed an intuitive app, and implemented iterative testing to ensure precision and usability.

Our solution

Turning specified engineering know-how into a measuring tool

We developed a digital platform for services from different individuals around a central core.​ By collecting all the information on one platform, the demand and usage of current products is determined and it is easier to compare them.​

 

We decided to build a platform that is structured like an online store.

The crucial difference, however, is that it is the exact opposite of an online store. You don’t go to the platform to buy something, you go to the platform to have someone pick stuff up from you. 

Advantages of the digital platform
Digital data intelligence

By comparing all batteries directly, it is possible to find out which batteries are used by whom and which are suitable for the environment.

Certificate of Abandonment

Car dealers receive a certificate from the recycling companies and therefore be sure that their batteries have been correctly disposed.

The Battery Recycling Process

With the digital solution, you can now keep track the status of your requests and the entire process. The system is simple:

Visualize all batteries

The car dealer with broken or unneeded batteries opens the platform, displaying all possible batteries.

Select the batteries

The car dealer selects their batteries, puts them in the shopping cart and request a pickup.

Accept the request

The request gets forwarded to the transport company. They can accept the request and drive to the car dealership to pick up the batteries and then take them directly to a recycling company.

Issue the certificate

Once the batteries have been safely recycled, the recycling company will issue a certificate certifying that the batteries have been recycled.

Download the certificate

The dealership can now download this certificate online and the job is complete.
